Android Auto is designed to make your driving experience smarter and safer. By connecting your Android phone to your car, you can access navigation, music, calls, and more—all hands-free. Here’s a step-by-step guide to connecting your Android phone to Android Auto using a USB cord.

What You’ll Need

  • An Android phone running Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer.
  • The Android Auto app (pre-installed on most phones or available on Google Play).
  • A compatible USB cable.
  • A car that supports Android Auto (refer to your car’s manual).

Step 1: Prepare Your Phone

Before connecting, ensure your phone is ready:

  1. Download/Update the Android Auto App: If it’s not already on your phone, download it from the Google Play Store.
  2. Enable Permissions: Open the Android Auto app, and follow the prompts to grant access to your phone’s features, such as notifications and location.

Step 2: Start Your Vehicle

Turn on your car and set it to accessory mode (if necessary). Ensure the infotainment system is powered on.

Step 3: Connect Your Phone

  1. Plug one end of your USB cable into your phone and the other into your car’s designated USB port. This port is usually located near the infotainment screen or in the center console.
  2. If this is your first time connecting, a prompt will appear on your phone asking for permission to allow Android Auto to access your phone while locked. Tap Allow.

Step 4: Access Android Auto

Once connected, the Android Auto interface should appear on your car’s infotainment screen. If it doesn’t, follow these steps:

  • On your car’s screen, select Android Auto from the menu.
  • On your phone, ensure Android Auto is running and the cable is securely connected.

Step 5: Enjoy the Features

With Android Auto, you can:

  • Navigate with Google Maps or Waze.
  • Stream music through apps like Spotify, YouTube Music, or Pandora.
  • Send and receive messages hands-free using Google Assistant.
  • Make and receive phone calls safely.
